UTM StrayFur Project: Social Entrepreneurship for Neglected Animals

Project Overview

• 💡 The StrayFur Project is a social entrepreneurship initiative by UTM students aimed at addressing the neglect of stray animals, particularly cats, around the campus.
• 🐾 The project's core purpose is to collaborate with animal shelters to provide food and care for neglected animals.

Addressing Animal Neglect

• ⚠️ Many stray animals, including cats and dogs, face hunger and neglect due to abandonment, low awareness of animal care, and insufficient shelter resources.
• 🏙️ This issue impacts not only animal welfare but also campus hygiene and public concern.

Our Approach and Activities

• 🛒 The team sold breakfast items like nuggets and 100 Plus drinks on campus, using all profits to buy food for stray animals.
• 📢 Awareness was raised through social media, online platforms, in-person events, faculty outreach, and campus posters.
• 🤝 Project members visited the HOPE Johor no-kill animal shelter to learn about their mission and assist with cleaning cat rooms.
• 🎁 A significant donation of 50 kg of cat food was made to HOPE Johor, sufficient to feed over 100 cats.

Impact and Outcomes

• ✅ The project successfully provided food for over 100 stray cats and significantly raised awareness within the student community.
• 🌱 It fostered compassion and promoted responsible animal care, demonstrating that small efforts can create big change.
• 📈 Participants gained valuable experience in teamwork, budgeting, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility.
