Upstate New York Tour Bus Crash: Medical Response and Patient Care

Emergency Medical Response

• 🚑 A coordinated team provided care for 24 patients arriving from the crash scene.
• 🏥 Currently, 20 patients are actively receiving treatment, including imaging and evaluation by the trauma service.
• ⏱️ The emergency medicine physicians and teams were able to care for all patients very quickly.

Patient Injuries and Treatment

• 🤕 Some patients sustained head injuries.
• 🦴 Others suffered from extremity fractures.
• 🔪 Two patients are in the operating room: one with internal injuries and another with a severe extremity injury.
• 🩺 Several individuals with less complex injuries are still undergoing evaluation in the emergency department.

Translation and Communication

• 💬 Many patients were bilingual, allowing them to provide history in English.
• 🌐 The hospital utilized translation services, deploying over 15-20 translation devices to assist with communication.
• ✅ Translation devices were available in greater numbers than the patients requiring them.
