The Third UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3)

The Nice Ocean Action Plan

Key Priorities and Outcomes

• 🤝 France's priorities include the entry into force of the BBNJ treaty, progress on sustainable fisheries, expanding protected areas to 30% by 2030, decarbonizing maritime transport, and advancing a plastics agreement.
• 💰 Costa Rica emphasizes concrete commitments with clear timelines, budgets, and accountability, aiming for zero rhetoric and maximum results.
• 📈 Pre-conference events include a science congress, a coastal resilience summit, and a blue economy finance forum, with expectations of significant funding commitments and job creation.

Global Cooperation and Challenges

• 🌍 The conference aims to mobilize diverse actors, including 195 governments, over 1,000 cities, 500 corporations, and billions of citizens.
