Solar Lanterns Provide PTSD Therapy for Ukrainian Children

Solight Design and the Solar Puff

• 💡 Alice Chun, CEO and inventor of Solight Design, created the Solar Puff, a portable, cube-shaped solar lantern inspired by origami.
• ⚡ The lantern, which packs flat and pops open, comes in six different colors and is designed to cut down on air pollution.

PTSD Therapy for Children

• 🧠 Healthcare workers discovered that the colored Solar Puff lanterns could be used for PTSD therapy with children.
• ⚠️ In Ukraine, children have experienced significant trauma due to bombings and power outages, often being left in the dark.
• ⏱️ It previously took healthcare workers up to three hours to calm children who were distressed in the dark.

Mission to Ukraine

• 🤝 Alice Chun teamed up with the nonprofit Common Man for Ukraine to deliver aid and more lanterns.
• 🇺🇦 In August, Chun and representatives from the nonprofit traveled to the front lines, delivering 46,000 lbs of food and visiting children's and mothers' retreats.
• 💔 Many children at these retreats had lost their fathers to the war and were struggling to recover.

Continuity of Care and Aid Delivery

• 🚚 Common Man for Ukraine, founded in February 2022, focuses on delivering essential aid like food, warmth, and generators to children in need.
• 📍 They work with the military to identify children requiring extra help, regardless of the risks involved in reaching them.
