Inspector General's Evaluation

• 🔍 The Pentagon's Inspector General's Office will evaluate whether Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's use of the Signal app complied with Defense Department policies.
• 📄 This evaluation is a direct response to a letter from the Senate Armed Services Committee requesting an inquiry.

Evaluation Objectives

• 🎯 The first objective is to determine the extent to which the Secretary of Defense and other DOD personnel complied or did not comply with strict DOD rules and procedures for using commercial apps like Signal for official business.
• ⚖️ The second objective is to review compliance with policies related to classification of information shared on Signal and adherence to records and retention requirements.

Scope of the Evaluation

• 📍 The evaluation will initially focus on the Pentagon and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
• 🌍 It will also include US Central Command (Centcom), headquartered in Tampa, Florida, due to the conversation's relevance to Houthi air strikes within Centcom's area of responsibility.
• 📢 The process begins with a one-page memo, intentionally brief and vague, notifying individuals that an evaluation is underway.
