Hurricane Season Preparedness Updates

Inland Watches and Warnings

• 🗺️ Inland watches and warnings are a new feature, extending alerts beyond coastal areas to inland communities threatened by hurricane or tropical storm-force winds.

Rip Current Risk Alerts

• riptide Rip current risk alerts will be issued for areas with the highest threat for both day one and day two, specifically when a tropical system is present, aiming to reduce fatalities.

Earlier and Extended Warnings

• ⏰ The earliest warning time for potential tropical cyclones has been extended from 48 hours to 3 days.
• 💨 Hurricane force wind forecasts will now be released 3 days in advance, up from the previous 2-day (48-hour) notice.
• 📊 The wind forecast will be extended to cover up to 5 days out.

International Traveler Preparedness

• 📏 Sea heights will now be measured in meters instead of feet to better assist international travelers.
