LA County Fire Team Returns from Hurricane Relief Mission in Jamaica

Homecoming for LA County Fire Team

• 🤝 They also provided comfort and support to villagers, distributing food and conducting search and assessments.

Observations on Destruction

• 💥 A firefighter paramedic described the destruction as eye-opening, comparing it to wildfires seen in Southern California but noting the debris was blown miles away.
• 💔 Despite the different forms of devastation, the emotional pain and suffering of survivors were consistently the same.

Canine Unit's Role

• 🐶 The team included two live-finding dogs and two recovery dogs, though no bodies or people were recovered during their mission.
• 🤗 The canines played a crucial role in bringing comfort to survivors, especially children, in the affected villages.

Challenges Faced

• 🥵 The mission presented significant challenges due to the tropical climate, with daily temperatures of 85-90 degrees, high humidity, and daily rain.
