John 18: Jesus' Arrest, Trial, and Peter's Denial

Jesus' Arrest in the Garden

• 📍 Jesus and his disciples went to a garden after praying, a place Judas knew well.
• 🛡️ Judas arrived with soldiers and officials, carrying torches and weapons, to arrest Jesus.
• ⚡ Jesus, knowing all that would happen, asked "Who is it you want?" and when he said "I am he," the soldiers drew back and fell to the ground.
• 🗡️ Simon Peter drew a sword and cut off the right ear of the high priest's servant, Malchus.
• 💧 Jesus commanded Peter to put his sword away, asking, "Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?"

Initial Questioning and Peter's Denial

• ⛓️ Jesus was arrested, bound, and first taken to Annas, the father-in-law of Caiaphas.
• 🚶 Peter, along with another disciple known to the high priest, followed Jesus.
• 🚪 Peter was initially kept outside the courtyard but was brought in by the other disciple.
• ❌ When asked if he was one of Jesus' disciples, Peter denied it for the first time.
• 🔥 While warming himself with servants and officials, Peter was questioned again.

Jesus Before Annas and Caiaphas

• 🌍 Jesus replied that he had spoken openly to the world and taught in synagogues and the temple, not in secret.
• ✋ An official slapped Jesus, asking if he was answering the high priest that way.
• ⚖️ Jesus responded by asking why he was struck if he said something wrong, or if he spoke the truth, why was he struck.
• ➡️ Annas then sent Jesus, bound, to Caiaphas the high priest.

Peter's Repeated Denials

• ❓ Peter was asked a third time if he was one of Jesus' disciples.
• 🚫 He denied it again, and at that moment, a rooster crowed.
• 👂 A servant, a relative of Malchus, challenged Peter, stating he saw him with Jesus in the garden and recognized him as the one who cut off his relative's ear.
• 💔 Peter denied Jesus for the third time, realizing he was not true to his earlier declarations.
