iPhone 17 Pro: How to Enter and Exit Recovery Mode

Preparing Your Computer

• 🔌 Connect your iPhone 17 Pro to your computer using a cable. For Mac users, simply open Finder, and the iPhone will appear in the sidebar.
• 💻 On Windows, you'll need to download the Apple Devices application from the Microsoft Store. Avoid older versions of iTunes, as they are no longer supported and have been replaced by newer, albeit less functional, Apple applications.

Entering Recovery Mode

• 👆 To enter recovery mode, press the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button.
• ✊ Immediately after, hold the Power button until the iPhone screen turns off and the recovery mode icon (a cable connected to a laptop) appears.
• 🖥️ The computer software (Finder on Mac, Apple Devices on Windows) should then recognize the iPhone and present options to Update or Restore.

Understanding Recovery vs. DFU Mode

• ✨ Apple has improved clarity by separating Recovery Mode from DFU Mode. In recovery mode, the software will explicitly label it as such, preventing confusion.
• ⚠️ DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode is a deeper level of access, distinct from recovery mode, and is now clearly differentiated in the interface.

Exiting Recovery Mode

• ↩️ To exit recovery mode, repeat the button sequence: Volume Up, Volume Down, then hold the Power button.
• 💡 Continue holding the Power button until the screen turns off. Once the Apple logo appears, you can release the button, and the iPhone will restart normally. You can unplug the cable at this point.
