How to Enter Recovery Mode on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1

Preparing for Recovery Mode

• 💡 Ensure you have access to your Microsoft account on another device before proceeding.
• 🔑 Navigate to aka.ms/myrecoverykey to access your BitLocker recovery key.
• 📌 Note the Key ID and the full recovery key from your Microsoft account, as these are crucial for unlocking your device.

Initiating Recovery Mode

• ⚠️ Perform a force shutdown by pressing and holding the power key until the laptop is fully off.
• 🛠️ If your ThinkPad X1 has a pinhole reset, use a pin or needle to press it, then power on the laptop.
• 🔄 If the pinhole method doesn't work, power on the laptop and repeatedly press the Enter key immediately after releasing the power button.
• ⚡ As a last resort, force shut down the laptop multiple times while it's attempting to boot; this should eventually trigger the recovery mode.

Accessing Recovery Options

• 🔵 Recovery mode is indicated by a blue screen with an option to click on "See advanced repair options".
• 🔑 If prompted for a BitLocker recovery key, use the key ID and recovery key previously retrieved from your Microsoft account.
• ↩️ If BitLocker is not encountered or after resolving issues, you can select "Enter to return to the operating system" to exit recovery mode.
