GMC Typhoon Transformation: Massive Brake Upgrade & 3D Printed Parts

GMC Typhoon Brake Overhaul

• 🛠️ The process involved removing spindles, modifying them by chopping off ears, sandblasting, priming, and painting them gloss black.
• ⚙️ New sealed wheel bearings and hub assemblies were installed, along with new ball joints and tie rod ends.
• ⚠️ Rear drum brakes were replaced with a new parking brake assembly and caliper mount, and the axle was removed to replace the wheel bearing and seal.

3D Printing Solutions for Typhoon Issues

• 💡 A Bambu Lab X1C 3D printer is introduced as a solution for creating hard-to-find parts.
• 🧩 A custom 3D printed fix for a common loose tailgate striker issue is demonstrated, using carbon fiber infused filament for durability.
• 🔧 Other 3D printed parts shown include a measurement tool, a replacement clip for Milwaukee power tool accessories, and proper lug covers for older GM vehicles.

Suspension and Undercoating Upgrades

• 🚀 Beltech front and rear shocks are installed to replace old, worn-out units, improving the truck's handling.
• 🎨 A two-step undercoating process is applied: first with Waxoyl for a black, waxy finish, followed by Amsoil heavy-duty metal protector as a top coat to prevent transfer and provide a durable satin finish.

Engine Assessment and Future Plans

• 🔬 Upon disassembly, the engine was found to have an aluminum oil pan, balance shaft, and ARP head bolts, but appeared to be a stock two-bolt main configuration, not a heavily built performance engine.
• 🚗 The owner decides to sell the second Typhoon as a roller with its engine, as it's in similar condition to his current Typhoon's engine.

Wheel and Tire Installation

• ✨ Custom-made forged wheels with polished faces and black inlays are installed, featuring 275mm front and 315mm rear tires.
• 🤩 The new wheels and gigantic 14-inch rotors fill the wheel wells perfectly, creating an aggressive stance.
• 🏁 The truck is prepped for a test drive, with plans for a full detail, further lowering, new exhaust, and interior upgrades in future videos.
