Cow Hoof Trimming: Fixing a Painful Ulcer and Cavity

Diagnosing the Hoof Problem

• 🐄 A cow presents with a painful front left foot, which is heavily caked in mud and manure, indicating it's either kept outside or on straw.

The Trimming and Debridement Process

• 🔬 Careful debridement around the ulcer is performed, removing less than a millimeter of hoof horn at a time to avoid further damage to the corium.
• 🧩 Loose hoof horn is identified and removed from around the ulcer, which was previously pressing into it.

Treatment and Wrapping

• 🩹 The goal is to remove all undulations and cavities to prevent trapping muck and to treat the actual problem, not just the surrounding dirt.

Checking Other Hooves
