• 🎻 Despite societal stereotypes that steer African-Americans towards sports, the founder discovered a passion for classical music, playing the violin and piano from a young age.
• 📚 She also unearthed the contributions of often-overlooked Black classical composers like Florence Price and William Grant Still, whose works were not taught in her music history classes.

The Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra and Community Ensemble

• 🚀 The Community Music Center evolved from a string quartet to the Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra, named after the great Texas composer.
• 🤝 It provides a platform for Black musicians to play and creates opportunities, as many face challenges entering traditional symphony orchestras.
• 🎶 The community orchestra comprises college students, music educators, and talented musicians who also teach children, fostering a collaborative environment.

Music Education and Its Benefits

Supporting the Mission
