Building a Hidden Gaming Desk with a Dual-Desk Setup

The Problem: Limited Hobby Space

The Solution: A Dual-Layered Desk

• 🚀 The core idea is to use a sit-stand desk to house a primary workspace, with a secondary, stationary desk mounted underneath.
• 🛠️ This creates a hidden, dedicated space for a gaming setup or another hobby, doubling desk utility without sacrificing floor space.

Design and Construction Challenges

• ⚠️ Initial attempts involved modifying a bamboo desktop, which revealed a honeycomb cardboard core that was not suitable for significant modifications.
• 🪵 Lighter, all-bamboo tops were used in subsequent attempts to ensure structural integrity for mounting components.
• 🔩 Building a custom base from aluminum extrusion and self-made brackets was necessary to elevate the standing desk and support the secondary desktop.

Integrating the Secondary Desk and PC

• 💡 A secondary, stationary desk was mounted beneath the standing desk, with cutouts for the standing desk's legs and motors.
• 🖥️ A water-cooled PC was mounted to the back of the secondary desktop, accessible via a pull-out shelf system.
• 🧩 Pegboard panels were added to the back of the upper desktop for organizing hobby tools and supplies.

Final Touches and Functionality

• ✨ Acrylic panels with rubber gaskets were installed in the aluminum extrusion frame for a cleaner aesthetic.
