Astronauts Return to Earth After 286 Days in Space

Return to Earth

• 🚀 Butch Wilmore and Sunny Williams have returned to Earth after 286 days in space.
• 🌊 Their capsule splashed down off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida, with a pod of dolphins nearby.
• 👨‍🚀 The crew, including Nick Hague and Alexander Goranov, were assisted out of the capsule by the recovery team.

Extended Mission and Challenges

• 💡 The astronauts launched in June of last year on a Boeing Starliner Test Flight, but propulsion problems led to an extended mission.
• 🛰️ A SpaceX vessel ultimately brought them home after delivering their replacements to the ISS.
• 👩‍🚀 During their extended stay, Wilmore set a spacewalk record for women astronauts and conducted over 150 experiments.

Readjustment to Gravity

• 🩺 Wilmore and Williams will spend a few days at the Johnson Space Center for medical checks to ensure they are readjusting to Earth's gravity.
• 🚶 They are currently experiencing what astronauts refer to as "chicken legs" and need to regain strength before returning home.
• 🏠 Ideally, they will be cleared to go home in one to two days, depending on their health and response to gravity.
