Condemnation of Political Violence

• 🗣️ While widespread condemnation of violence is positive, it must not be used to further divide the country.
• 😠 Anger and lashing out at groups of people are not solutions for healing or preventing future violence.

Addressing Rhetoric and Incitement

• 🔥 Leaders across the political spectrum must condemn not only acts of violence but also rhetoric that could incite violence.
• 🚫 Speech that suggests certain groups are not American or do not deserve to be here should be explicitly spoken out against.
• ⚠️ It is hypocritical to fan the flames of hateful speech and then condemn the resulting fire.

Advocating for Red Flag Laws

• ⚖️ Kentucky lacks tools available in other states to prevent violence, such as a red flag law.
• 🚨 A red flag law would allow law enforcement to seek court intervention when they believe someone is about to commit murder, potentially stopping violence before it starts.
• ✅ Courts are trusted to make decisions about child custody, and therefore can be trusted to judge when law enforcement believes a murder is imminent, upholding constitutional rights while ensuring safety.
