Acts 8: Persecution, Philip the Evangelist, and the Ethiopian Eunuch

Persecution and the Scattering of Believers

• ⚠️ A great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem following Stephen's martyrdom, causing believers, except the apostles, to scatter.
• 🕊️ Those who fled Jerusalem preached the word wherever they went, spreading the gospel beyond the city.
• ✝️ Saul, who approved of Stephen's death, began actively destroying the church, dragging men and women to prison.

Philip's Ministry in Samaria

• ⚡ Philip, one of the seven chosen to serve, went to a city in Samaria and proclaimed Christ, performing miraculous signs and healing the sick.
• ✨ Great joy filled the city as people were healed and evil spirits were cast out, demonstrating the power of the gospel.
• 🧙 Simon the sorcerer, who had previously amazed the people with his magic, believed and was baptized after witnessing Philip's ministry.
• 🙏 Peter and John were sent from Jerusalem to Samaria to pray for the believers to receive the Holy Spirit, which was evidenced by an outward sign.

Simon's Attempt to Buy Spiritual Power

• 💰 Simon, seeing the Spirit given through the apostles' hands, offered money to gain the same ability.
• 🚫 Peter rebuked Simon, stating his money would perish with him and that his heart was not right before God, calling him captive to sin.
• 🗣️ Simon repented and asked Peter to pray for him, indicating an understanding of his wrongdoing.

Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch

• 🗺️ An angel directed Philip to travel south to the desert road leading to Gaza, where he met an Ethiopian eunuch.
• 📖 The eunuch, an important official, was reading from the book of Isaiah and sought understanding.
• 💡 Philip explained the passage, beginning with Isaiah's prophecy, and told him the good news about Jesus.
• 💧 Upon reaching water, the eunuch requested baptism, and Philip baptized him, after which the eunuch went on his way rejoicing.
