Acts 18: Paul in Corinth with Priscilla, Aquila, and Apollos

Paul's Ministry in Corinth

• 📍 Paul arrives in Corinth, a strategically important city situated on an isthmus, known for its wealthy merchants and slave labor.
• 🤝 He meets Aquila and Priscilla, Jewish tentmakers who had recently been expelled from Rome by Claudius, and stays with them, working as a tentmaker himself.
• 🗣️ Paul regularly preached in the synagogue, attempting to persuade both Jews and Greeks, until Silas and Timothy joined him.
• 🏛️ After facing opposition and abuse from the Jews, Paul declared he would turn to the Gentiles, leading him to establish a ministry in the house of Titus Justus.
• 🛡️ Paul received a vision from the Lord assuring him of protection and the presence of many people to reach in Corinth, allowing him to stay and teach for a year and a half.

Gallio and the Court

• ⚖️ When the Jews brought Paul before Gallio, the proconsul of Achaia, they accused him of persuading people to worship God against the law.
• 🚫 Gallio dismissed the complaint, recognizing it as an internal religious dispute concerning Jewish law, and refused to be a judge.
• 💥 Following Gallio's dismissal, the synagogue ruler Sosthenes was beaten in front of the court, an event Gallio ignored.
• ✅ Unlike previous cities, Paul was not forced to leave Corinth due to Gallio's non-intervention and divine protection, enabling his extended stay.

Paul's Departure and Apollos's Arrival

• 🌍 He briefly visited Ephesus, reasoning with the Jews in the synagogue but declining their request to stay longer.
• 🗺️ Paul then sailed to Caesarea, visited the church there, and returned to Antioch, marking the completion of his second missionary journey.

Apollos's Ministry and Influence

• 📜 In Ephesus, a learned Jew named Apollos, originally from Alexandria, began teaching accurately about Jesus, though he only knew John's baptism.
• 🤝 Priscilla and Aquila heard Apollos and invited him to their home, where they explained the way of God more fully.
• 📣 Encouraged by the Ephesian believers, Apollos traveled to Achaia, where he powerfully refuted the Jews in public debates, proving Jesus as the Christ from the scriptures.
• 💡 Apollos became a significant influence, particularly in Corinth, though Paul later addressed divisions within the church regarding allegiance to him versus Paul, emphasizing that both were merely servants pointing to Christ.
