Tackling Rusted Suspension Components

• 🛠️ The project involves replacing the rear spring shackles and bushings on a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country with high mileage.
• ⚠️ The existing components were found to be completely rusted out, turning a straightforward job into a significant challenge.
• 💡 New OEM parts were sourced, but some components, like the shackle hangers and half of the shackle, were discontinued, requiring salvage of old parts.

Navigating the Repair Process

• 🔩 The initial step involved removing the rusted spring hanger, secured by four bolts, with one bolt confirmed to be loose beforehand.
• 💥 The process encountered significant rust, requiring the use of tools like the "No Mercy Reversy" and heat to remove stubborn bolts.
• 🔧 A variety of extensions and swivels, including Astro Tools, were employed to access and remove bolts in tight spaces.

Overcoming Unexpected Obstacles

• 🧩 A critical missing part was the metal sleeve for the bushings, which was not included in the OEM diagram and had to be salvaged from the old hangers.
• 📏 The salvaged sleeves were slightly wider than needed and required trimming to fit the new bushings, with Dorman parts providing a reference spec.
• ⚙️ The repair involved dealing with the vehicle's track bar, which caused the axle to shift when components were unhooked, requiring careful reassembly.

Reassembly and Final Touches

• ✅ New bushings were installed, and the spring hangers were reattached, with some bolts left loose until the vehicle is on an alignment rack.
• 🔧 The track bar and shocks were also addressed, with bolts for these components to be fully torqued at ride height.
• 🏁 The successful replacement of the rusted components significantly improved the vehicle's condition, aiming to get it through inspection and extend its service life.
