2 Kings 18: Hezekiah's Faithful Reign and Assyrian Threat

Hezekiah's Righteous Reign

• 👑 Hezekiah became king of Judah at 25 and reigned for 29 years, doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
• 🔨 He actively removed religious corruptions, including high places, sacred stones, Asher poles, and the bronze serpent that the Israelites had begun to worship.
• 🤝 Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, holding fast to Him and keeping His commands, leading to his success in all his undertakings.
• ⚔️ He rebelled against the king of Assyria and was successful in defeating the Philistines.

The Fall of Israel and Assyrian Pressure

• 💥 In Hezekiah's fourth year, Assyria, under King Shalmaneser, besieged and captured Samaria, the capital of Israel.
• ⛓️ The Israelites were deported to Assyria and resettled in various locations, a consequence of their disobedience and violation of God's covenant.
• 💰 In the 14th year of Hezekiah's reign, Assyria's King Sennacherib attacked Judah, forcing Hezekiah to pay a heavy tribute of silver and gold, even stripping it from the Temple.

Sennacherib's Threat to Jerusalem
