1 Maccabees 7:1-25 - The Rise of Demetrius and the Betrayal of Alchemus

Demetrius Takes the Throne

The Appointment of a New High Priest

• 📜 Demetrius is approached by Alchemus and other apostate Israelites who accuse Judas and his brothers of destruction.
• 🤝 Alchemus, seeking the high priesthood, is appointed by Demetrius and sent with Bacchides, a trusted governor, to Judah.
• ⚠️ Their mission is to punish the Israelites and restore order, but their intentions are revealed to be treacherous.

Betrayal and Violence in Jerusalem
