# Prep for a podcast guest in 30 minutes

> Every prior appearance, key quotes and podcast notes — walk in knowing which stories they always tell, and ask what nobody has.

## The problem

Your guest is interesting — that's why you booked them. It's also why six other shows booked them first, and your listeners have heard those episodes. If your conversation covers the same origin story, the same three lessons and the same anecdote about the early days, you've produced a rerun with different microphones.

The prep that prevents this is simple and rarely done: know what they've already said. Not skim their biggest interview — know the *record*, so you can hear when an answer is a tape loop and steer somewhere new. That used to take a producer a week. It's now a half hour, which is exactly the gap between shows that get the rehearsed guest and shows that get the real one.

## How veridive MCP helps

**deep_search** pulls the guest's appearance record — podcasts, interviews, panels, the small shows along with the big ones (small shows are where guests relax and say the unrehearsed things worth following up on).

**run_youtube_tool** compresses the record into prep: `podcast-notes` per appearance gives you each conversation's beats; `key-quotes` surfaces the lines they always deliver — which is your skip list — and the occasional line they said once and never repeated, which is your gold list. Thirty minutes of reading later you know their loops, their gaps and their threads worth pulling. Your first question can start where every other show stopped, and guests *notice* — the interview changes register when they realize you've actually done the reading.

## How to run it

1. **Connect veridive MCP** — One-time setup: add the veridive MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client and generate your API key. Takes about two minutes.
2. **Pull the appearance record** — Everything findable — big shows for the rehearsed material, small ones for the unguarded moments.

   ```
   Find podcast and interview appearances by <guest>, including smaller shows, newest first — use veridive's deep_search.
   ```
3. **Compress into prep notes** — Podcast notes and key quotes per appearance: the beats, the repeated lines, the one-off admissions.

   ```
   For each of these appearances, give me podcast notes and key quotes — flag which stories and lines repeat across shows: <video URLs> — use veridive's run_youtube_tool.
   ```
4. **Build the question map** — Skip list (their loops), gold list (threads said once, never followed), and the questions no show has asked.

   ```
   From these notes: what does <guest> always say (I'll skip it), what did they mention once that deserves a follow-up, and what obvious question has nobody asked?
   ```

## Problems it solves

- Guests deliver the same interview everywhere, and unprepped hosts collect rerun number seven.
- Real prep — knowing the full record — costs a producer-week nobody has per episode.
- The unrehearsed threads live in small-show appearances no prep sheet covers.
- Without the record, you can't hear the difference between an answer and a tape loop in the moment.

## Why it's valuable

- Thirty minutes buys the prep depth of a research producer — per guest, sustainably.
- The skip list saves your episode from being their seventh identical appearance.
- One-off threads and never-asked questions are where clippable moments come from.
- Guests recalibrate when they sense real prep — you get the conversation, not the performance.

## Example prompts

```
All podcast/interview appearances by <guest>, small shows included — use veridive's deep_search.
```

```
Podcast notes + key quotes per appearance; flag what repeats: <URLs>
```

```
Skip list, gold threads, and the question nobody has asked.
```

## FAQ

**Thirty minutes — really?**

The sweep and per-episode compression run in minutes; your half hour is reading the notes and building the question map. Deep-dive guests with huge records might earn an hour — still an order of magnitude under manual prep.

**How is this different from the interview dossier use case?**

Same family, different depth: the dossier (for journalists and producers) adds cross-appearance analysis — contradictions, deflections, message drift. Guest prep optimizes for conversation quality on a weekly cadence: loops, gaps, threads.

**Does it work for panels and live Q&As I'm moderating?**

Identically — and multi-guest panels benefit most, since prepping several people's records manually is where prep always collapses first.
